About Me

Abdullah Al Ruqaishi, 17-year-old, is the first Special Needs Child to be a proud owner of a start-up in the Sultanate of Oman. Undeterred by the disabilities (down syndrome) he worked tirelessly for around two years to acquire vocational skills from the renowned vocational trainer for special needs children, Mrs. Gayatri Narasimhan.

Once detailed task analysis was done, he was introduced to making of designer candles, which took six months for him to completely learn end-to-end. His motor skills improved, and he learnt the importance of eye-hand coordination. On mastering this vocation his self-esteem increased tremendously. He went on to learn quickly the making of chocolates, soaps and bespoke greeting cards, all hand-made. Later he also learnt block printing and screen printing on clothes, paper and eco-friendly bags to print custom made themes.

Abdullah’s accomplishments made his mother to think that now the time has come for him to stand on his feet. Then the idea of a “gift shop” was born. With the help good Samaritans from the corporate world and many individuals, in Oman, and with the able guidance Abdullah’s vocational trainer, “Green-Ivy” was established.

Green-Ivy now offers designer and scented candles, hand-made chocolates (many varieties), hand-made and scented soaps, bespoke greeting cards, screen/block printed clothes/bags. Of course, one can order the unique Chocolate bouquets for any occasions.
